Public Hearing

The Planning Commission will be meeting on Tuesday February 15, 2011 at City Hall to hear public input and to consider forwarding a recommendation for adoption of the Draft Master Plan Update to the City Council for adoption.

The draft plan remains largely as it was last month, but a few minor changes have been made. the following documents use tracked changes to highlight the changes made from the previous to this version.

We posted the future land use plan map too soon! A few changes have been made to the map and all links have been updated with the new version.

Draft Elko Master Plan Update posted!

We are nearing the final stages of the Elko Master Plan update process. The final draft plan has been posted, and the Elko Planning Commission will be considering recommendation of the plan to the City Council at their next regular meeting. Public comment will be accepted at the meeting, and will guide any final edits or revisions to the plan before its adoption.

There will be no Master Plan update meetings in November or December.

We will be back with the Planning Commission in January for the start of the official adoption process. In the mean time, we will be making edits and updates to the document based on your feedback. We encourage you to read through the draft Master Plan and share your comments with us on how we can better reflect your vision for Elko in the document.

Did you miss the October 20th Public Open House?

On the evening of Wednesday, October 20th, the City of Elko hosted a public open house at the Stockmen’s Hotel and Casino to present the ideas and concepts included in the Draft Elko City Master Plan as well as to collect input for the new Downtown Strategic Plan.

Attendees were able to browse a series of presentation boards that presented the key components and ideas included in the draft Master Plan, as well as leave comments for the plan preparers on how to make the plan better. Input and feedback from the community will be used to identify any concerns with the current Draft Plan, so that they can be addressed or corrected prior to the commencement of the adoption process in January 2011.

Comments received were relatively minor, and primarily dealt with parks and recreation. Specifically, it was asked that the City preserve the main City Park as is, and that a dog park be provided to help keep the other city parks clean.

We want to know how to make the plan better, and to address your comments before the official public hearings in January/February.

We’re almost there, and need your input to make sure the Master Plan includes your ideas before we start the adoption process. Please plan to attend two upcoming events:

Planning Commission Work Session
October 19th, 2010

The Draft Master Plan was delivered to the City at the September 21 Planning Commission work session. They have been reviewing the Draft document over the last few weeks, and we’ll be discussing their questions and suggested revisions at this meeting in October. Input collected at this meeting, as well as the Open House below, will be used to update the Draft Plan and prepare it for the official adoption process.

The general public is invited to attend this open house to review the main components and concepts in the Draft Master Plan, as well and provide input on a second planning effort – the Elko Downtown Strategic Plan.
